The School of Special Educational Needs: Disability (SSEND) partners with Western Australian Department of Education schools to provide collaborative support and resources that promote learning environments where every student’s potential is realised.

At SSEND, we value the voice of parents, carers, other stakeholders, and students as important contributors to a child’s educational journey. We partner with schools, who take the lead in engaging directly with parents, carers and other stakeholders where appropriate. The requesting school, as the key partner in our work, maintains responsibility for case management, decision-making and for coordinating collaboration with stakeholders. This ensures our partnership remains firmly with the school, while supporting their role in engaging families and students in the process.

SSEND does not have enrolled students. Rather, SSEND closely works with Department schools to build the capacity of educators to effectively support students with disability.

If you are a parent who is seeking to maximise your child’s learning outcomes and support their school experience, your starting point is making contact with your child's enrolled school.

If the school requires assistance to provide the most supportive learning environment for your child, the school can contact SSEND directly through their Request for Assistance process.

As a parent or carer, your local school is your first point of contact in relation to students with disability or learning difficulties.
